Dr. Eli Sterling, born Erhardt Elias Rothschild, of the Manhattan Rothschilds, some of New York's oldest money. Not that Eli Sterling typifies that. The second born of four children, Eli was quiet and studious but not terribly ambitious, leastways not as much as is expected in an aristocratic family. At thirteen his introversion turned into withdrawal and eventually dysphoria, at fourteen he confessed to the voices he heard. By fifteen he'd been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and at seventeen this diagnosis was re-evaluated to undifferentiated schizophrenia despite several different antipsychotic treatments.
Rather than risk their son being discussed in the pages of the New Yorker, Eli's treatment would always be documented under Elias Sterling— his mother's maiden name which Elias would eventually assume. While his degrees bear his full name he is known at NYU as Dr. Sterling; tenured professor of epistemology.
Eli is not currently medicated for his condition— a personal choice of his.
